Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Lillelørdag folkens!
Last weekend, another group of HGSD Verftetians visited Minde for the BAF workout. From the look on their faces, they had a great workout and a good time!
If you are in the area, know you have a home away from home for a coffee, chat, and workout!
In the upcoming weeks, we will have a bunch of contestants for the European Championships in weightlifting for Masters Athletes drop by to train in our facility. We hope you welcome them with a warm smile and show them the way to the lifting platforms, coffee area, or toilet. Study their lifts, and you might learn a thing or two!
Monday; Shoulder Press 1RM & Beastie Boys
We are on our last week of the strength focus, which means we are rolling the dice and seeing where we are with our 1RM lifts this week. How many kilos can you lift while still maintaining solid mechanics and technique?! On Monday, we kicked this series of tests off with the shoulder press. Body locked in, pretty face out of the way, press the heavy barbell straight up. Of the 87 scores logged on Sugarwod that day, 26 people did not log a PR, which means the vast majority did. Hard work pays off! (great name for a training program, by the way).
Even the seniors moved some impressive weights, take Issa for example strict pressing 50kg and making a run for the PR-bell to celebrate 🔔🥳
Tuesday: Sisson
Tuesday is the first day for Therese to actively coach alongside our team on the floor. She did a good job! It is also the first day for a bunch of athletes to do a legless rope climb. I was heavily impressed by Hans K. getting up there on his arms only. I don't know of any other retired people who do legless rope climbs. Maybe we should all add it to our to-do list for retirement!
Thor Arne, Geir, Carina, Lotte, Marius, and Asbjørn completed the whole workout with legless rope climbs, and there were probably other athletes I did not know who did it, too! Great effort! Others pushed their limits by working on consistent foot clamps or climbing all the way up to the ceiling for the first time. I overheard some long-time members reminisce, "Gone are the days where at Wonderwoman you could use your feet to climb up to the ceiling, and Batman athletes could just go up for three meters" 🤣
Oh yes, and there was running (in the rain) and some burpees too. It all led to a floor covered in chalk and water at the end of the day. Nothing we can't fix.
Besides these workouts, you can now grab a Bingo list and get some bonus movement to kick-start your summer. We have one in June and a new set of challenges for July. Some beautifully simple habit starters are in there, like drinking a big glass of water at the start of your day that could serve you for the rest of your life. You can even join the BINGO while you are away on summer vacation! Also, since it is the start of a new month, we just published the list of our Superstars, the members who completed 16 or more training sessions in the month of May. Way to be consistent: score one of the BINGO assignments by completing 16 training sessions or more in June.
Have a great second half of the week; let's see if you can have more fun than in the first half. For instance, by joining us on Saturday for the Hinderløyope (start at 16:00), BBQ (fire up the grill at 17:00) and/or Games Night (welcoming participants at 18:00)!
Hasta Mañana, Iguana!

PS. It's nice to see that people pick up my animal-themed greetings! It's even nicer to see that they find matching memes and send them to me.
